Implementing the directive within organizations entails specific obligations and practical changes to remuneration policies. The goal is not only to identify pay gaps but, above all, to eliminate them.

Obligations of companies

  • Applying objective and neutral remuneration criteria: remuneration must be based on competence, experience and responsibility, and not on gender, age or other protected characteristics.
  • Providing information on pay gaps: Employees have the right to know about pay levels within the organisation, which increases awareness and enables them to report irregularities.
  • Intervention in the event of an excessive pay gap: If the pay gap exceeds established thresholds, the employer must analyze the causes and take corrective action.

Why is transparency key?

Pay transparency reduces the risk ofopaque discretion—a situation in which pay decisions are based on informal assessments, biases, or subjective preferences of managers. Transparent policies allow all employees to assess their position fairly and motivate the organization to practice fairness.

Additional benefits

  • Building a culture of trust and openness in the organization.
  • Increased employee motivation and retention through a sense of fairness.
  • Minimizing the legal and reputational risks associated with pay discrimination.
  • Facilitate the implementation of DEI (diversity, equity, inclusion) policies by monitoring and reporting pay data.
