Step 3. Identify visible and invisible signs

Estimated time: 1 hour

One of the objectives of this phase is to train your analytical perspective.

Visible signs

  • These are easier to recognise:
  • Offensive comments.
  • Explicit exclusion.
  • Clearly unfair rules.
  • Mockery.
  • Open humiliation.
  • Direct rejection.

Invisible signs

  • These are more subtle but equally important:
  • Constant interruptions.
  • Not inviting certain people to key spaces.
  • Lack of accommodations.
  • Assuming certain people “do not fit”.
  • Lack of listening.
  • Organisational silence.
  • Fear of reporting.

Module 1 emphasises that the absence of visible conflict does not mean well-being, and that silence may indicate the normalisation of the problem.

Team task

  • Write:
  • 3 visible signs.
  • 3 invisible signs, related to your topic.
